Nearly £300,000 will be spent improving tennis courts across the Shipley constituency as part of a drive to provide quality outdoor sports facilities.
The park tennis courts set to benefit are Cottingley Manor, Menston Park, Myrtle Park, Northcliffe Park, and Temple Rhydding.
The £299,735 investment is part of the Park Tennis Project – a £30 million investment by government and the LTA Tennis Foundation, to transport park tennis courts across the country and will be delivered by the LTA.
Shipley MP Philip Davies said: “I am delighted we have been chosen to receive funding and I know it will be put to good use. This money will ensure the courts are of good quality and can be enjoyed by everyone. I look forward to hearing the plans and visiting the new improved courts.”
It is hoped by investing and maintaining the courts more people will have the opportunity to participate and try different sports.
Stuart Andrew MP, Sports Minister, said: “These improved tennis facilities across the Shipley constituency will provide the local community with fun opportunities to get active and potentially become the next Andy Murray, Emma Raducanu,or even our latest champion Katie Boulter.
"We are committed to levelling up access to sport which is so important for the nation’s physical and mental health.”
Chief Operating Officer at the LTA Julie Porter said the funding was vital to ensure courts will be available for years to come.
