Today, the Conservative government has allocated 350 additional medical school places across the country for the academic year 2025-26 so we can train the next generation of world-class doctors, as we stick to the plan to give patients the highest-quality care and a brighter future.
- Thanks to our plan for a faster, simpler, and fairer healthcare system, the NHS now has record funding and a record number of doctors. But we need to make sure that we will have the medical professionals needed to deliver the highest-quality care to patients across the country in the years to come. That is why we have allocated 350 additional medical schools for the academic year 2025-26, including over 100 places in the North and 58 in the Midlands, marking the next step in delivering the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan commitment to double medical school places by 2031.
- Whilst we are sticking to the plan to deliver the next generation of world-class doctors to deliver the care people need when they need it, Labour in Wales continue to let people down with over a quarter of the Welsh population on a waiting list and the worst A&E waiting times in Britain.
