The Prime Minister has announced that the UK will increase defence spending to 2.5 per cent by 2030, as we stick with the plan to strengthen our national security at home and abroad and deliver long-term safety and prosperity for the British people.
- The first duty of our government is the security of the British people, but as the world becomes increasingly dangerous and unstable, we must do more to defend our country, interests, and values. That is why we have announced the biggest strengthening of our national defence for a generation, increasing defence spending to a new baseline of 2.5 per cent of GDP by 2030 – delivering an additional £75 billion for defence by the end of the decade.
- By sticking with the plan, we will secure our place as by far the largest defence power in Europe by investing in our national security and prosperity, making us safer at home and stronger abroad.
Labour has refused to commit to spending 2.5 per cent of GDP on defence, causing more uncertainty and putting our national security at risk.
- Labour want to spend years holding a review while the world gets more dangerous, telling you everything you need to know about the Labour Party and those running it.
- Failing to back our announcement this week will mean a cut to defence spending for our armed forces as the world gets more and more dangerous, taking us back to square one.
