Today the Government announced new rules to control short-term lets – as Conservatives stick to the long-term plan to improve access to affordable housing and ensure local people can continue to live in the place they call home.
- The excessive use of short-term lets is preventing local people from finding housing they can afford to buy or rent. That is why we are giving councils greater control over short-term lets by making them subject to the planning process. Meanwhile, a new mandatory national register will give local authorities the information they need about short-term lets in their area.
- These changes are part of our long-term plan to prevent the hollowing out of communities, improve access to affordable housing, and give local people more control over housing in their community.
